I just dropped off my kiddos for their first day back to school! Riley is starting kindergarten and Siena is going into third grade. And both will attend one of the only Italian immersion programs, not just in Los Angeles area, but in the entire country!

Kids brains are so plastic, we’re all heard the phrase “they’re like sponges”, and can learn a second language much easier than in adulthood. This isn't only true about languages, as we grow older, we also get more rigid in our beliefs about the world and about ourselves. Our experiences shape not just what we learn, but who we are.

Think back to your childhood… or in your first romantic relationship… or first job?
What did you learn to fear? What did you learn to love?
What you learned is now programmed in your subconscious mind. We may not realize it, but it is this control system that informs so much of how we feel and what we do.

Going back to school is an exciting time, so many kids starting off in a new class or school. With limitless possibilities for the school year. And they will accomplish so much with the right mindset and support system in place.

If your childhood was traumatic, confusing, or felt unsafe - hypnotherapy can be very powerful to unblock the unhealthy coping mechanisms we formed to survive during that time. These behaviors we formed in early childhood may have helped keep us safe and sane at the time. But now - as an adult - you are likely in a very different place and in different circumstances and we’ve got to update your subconscious mind to know the difference. To not only survive, but thrive!

During our sessions, I flood the subconscious mind with suggestions of positivity, love and care. And as a result, my clients report lower anxiety and freedom from fear. Not letting their past negative experiences to dictate their potential for success and achieving goals.

Even if you had a great childhood free from trauma, hypnotherapy to heal the inner child can be very beneficial in many aspects of your life. Our subconscious tends to hang on to negative experiences, like that one bad fight with your mom or when a parent forgot to pick you up from practice/camp. Our parents are our first relationships, they tend to be very influential. These little moments can lead to misreading situations or misinterpreting the intent or behavior of someone when you’re an adult.

I still remember when a girl in school made fun of my hand writing, I was mortified! Or when my Dad sent me to school with a towel wrapped around my neck (for neck pain) and my best friend made fun of me. My best friend! I even remember my first boss having a serious talk with me about toning down my enthusiasm in pitch meetings. All of this informs who I am today. And sometimes it gets in the way. But through hypnotherapy we can build confidence, enthusiasm and free ourselves of the fear of judgement.

 One more thing! Here is an exercise you can do to begin your own healing:

  • Ask yourself what was the subconscious belief you got about yourself or the world that came directly from parents, society, culture, teachers or peers.

  • Is that belief true?

  • What else is true for you, and how you choose to live your life, that is more empowering & uplifting?

  • Write it out as a mantra (positive words only)!

  • Say it to yourself every night before bed and every morning when you wake up

Here’s a small secret - before bed, when you are half awake, half asleep, you are in a natural state of hypnosis. You can use this time to reprogram your subconscious beliefs.
