Understanding hypnotherapy costs

How much you pay for hypnotherapy varies based on factors such as the practitioner's experience, advanced certifications, specialization, and the specific services offered. Prices can vary depending on the location and the individual practitioner's pricing structure. It's recommended to contact hypnotherapists directly to get specific pricing information tailored to their practice and inquire about any specials or discounts they may offer for packages. Several factors affect the price including overhead costs. Here are some of them to consider.

Initial Consultation

Want to know how much is hypnosis therapy? Some hypnotherapist don't post their rates on their website so the consultation is a great way to learn about their hypnotherapy prices. Most consultations are free and run about 10-30 minutes in length. This is a good time to find out how much does hypnotherapy cost if you work together. It's a good time to ask if they offer sliding scale fees. If they've had any previous clients with the same presenting issue you are looking for help with. You can also ask if they offer audio recordings of your sessions. This is a good time to ask them to share success stories for clients they have helped with weight loss, quitting smoking, releasing fears, or whatever your presenting issue may be.

First Session

You can expect to pay more for your initial session. It is usually longer; about 1.5- 2 hours long. It takes time to gather insights into your history and presenting problem, build trust and test your suggestibility so they know how to give you the best results possible. Every hypnotherapy session will include talking consciously, and involves inducing you into the hypnotic state.

Individual Sessions

One hypnosis session usually isn't going to cure a lifelong habit. You should plan to budget for at least three to six sessions after your first one to really support your mental health goals. In your follow up sessions your therapist will continue to target your goals for weight loss, anxiety or boost self esteem issues. If your goal is to lose weight you should plan to budget for 8-12 follow up sessions. Weight loss is a slow process, but the results are for a lifetime of health; not a quick fad that's unsustainable. If you love weight watchers you can keep that program going and ask your hypnotherapist to support you with sticking to their program.

Package Rates

Some hypnotherapist will offer package deals. This is helpful because hypnotherapy usually takes multiple sessions to get results. If you want the most low cost hypnotherapy sessions then investing in a package is your best bet. The more sessions you can do the better! If your particular hypnotherapist doesn't offer a package, then ask them if they would be willing to give you a discount on their rates if you pay upfront for frequent sessions. This will lower the overall cost of your hypnotherapy in the long run.

Smoking hypnotherapy, hypnosis for childbirth, and hypnosis for weight loss are all best if bought in a package. This type of work requires a deep relaxation, self awareness and can take an extended period of time for some.

Health Insurance

Is it possible to get your insurance to cover hypnosis? Most insurances companies don't cover hypnotherapy but many insurance companies do cover therapy. If you can find a licensed therapist who is also trained in hypnotherapy then your insurance just might cover hypnotherapy. While these unicorn practitioners are rare and often hard to find, they do exist!

Once you find a trained therapist that your insurance covers, ask them "would you be willing to include hypnotherapy in all our sessions?" You may want to discuss billing with them to make sure if they include hypnotherapy in your session that it will still be coded as regular therapy session covered by insurance.

Some clients have a Health Saving Account where they put pre-taxed dollars into for additional medical expenses. I have seen some clients pay for their hypnotherapy using this flex spending HSA funds. There may also be employee assistance programs that could possibly help cover the cost of hypnotherapy. It's worth asking your employee!

Why Higher Fees?

You shouldn't look at it as an hourly rate. You are paying to change your life and that hold enormous value to you. You are investing in your overall physical well being and your mental well being. It's a full package positive transformation that trickles into all areas of your life.

While the rates may be higher than other alternative medicine and traditional forms of therapy, the cost effectiveness is much better because you see results faster.

Value beyond cost

Imagine you were living in chronic pain. You would probably pay anything to make it go away. The value of a life free from pain is so high. The same goes for just about any hypnotherapy treatment. Think of the value of being free of any mental health condition that is plaguing you. Most people who try hypnosis, have tried everything else already and had few results. Sure, your insurance company may pay for a pill you can take to lower your anxiety, but the root of the problem isn't being addressed. With hypnosis you are healing the deep rooted issues and seeing results in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.

So ask yourself, “How much would I be willing to pay if I could be free of this issue once and for all?" If your success was guaranteed, how much would that be worth to you?  Consider the high cost of the emotional distress you are suffering with. Such a wide range of issues can impact your work, your relationships, your quality of life. Think of the associated costs of continuing to live with this problem going unresolved.

Finding the right hypnotherapist for you

If you have a sense that the root of the problem is stored subconsciously you want to work with someone who has specialized training in hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapist don't have to go through the same rigorous training as therapist. There are no licenses that govern who qualifies and who doesn't to do this work.

This is why you want to do thorough research to find a person who has had sufficient training and experience.

Here are some questions you may want to ask a hypnotherapist you are considering:

  • Are you certified in hypnosis for (Insert your area of concern)

    • Sleep disorders, weight loss, hypnosis for childbirth, past life regression, fears and phobias, anxiety or any other additional services that may meet your needs.

  • Do you offer hypnosis with online platforms?

  • What are some positive suggestions you might use for me?

  • How much is a hypnosis session?

  • Are there any additional hypnotist cost I should consider?

  • Have you received any positive feedback from past clients with issues like mine?

  • Will I receive a recording so I can do self hypnosis at home?

When you find the hypnotherapist you want to work with, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone in terms of spending is actually the first step in sending a powerful message to your subconscious mind, that you are ready to make some serious changes in your life.

This is why you don’t necessarily want to just book the hypnotherapist who offers the lowest rate.  When you make a big investment in yourself, it makes your subconscious mind pay attention.  When you pay, you pay attention.  And this can lead to the BIG results you are looking for!

Final thoughts on hypnotherapy pricing

How much does hypnotherapist cost when it’s all said and done?  Hypnotherapy works quickly but you should expect to invest in a minimum of 6 session.  When you purchase a package you can save money in the long run.  I offer a package of 6 sessions for $1200 or a package of 12 sessions for $2,000.

Most of the clients I have seen BIG results with come back over and over and over again, making hypnotherapy an integrated part of their monthly self care.  They also listen to their personalized recording in between sessions.

I recommend seeing your hypnotherapist weekly in the beginning.  Once you are seeing the results you are looking for, you can scale back to every other week or once a month.  For some people coming in just a couple times a year for a little tune up or on a need be basis is also powerful.

If you curious to learn more about hypnotherapy and if the cost is worth it, schedule a complimentary consultation with whatever hypnotherapist you are considering.  Having good repoir and trust in the person you are working with is essential to see results.  Find someone who sounds confident in being help you and that will send a powerful message to your subconscious mind that you can feel confident in investing in hypnotherapy with them too!
