Are you letting anxiety run your life?
Is it just me, or does it seem like everything is fighting for our attention these days? With all that’s happening in the world politically, socially, and even just in our personal lives, it can all just feel so…overwhelming 😣
The information overload we experience on a daily basis can leave our nervous systems triggered and on high alert for much longer than what’s healthy. The name for this persistent state of anxiety is called hyperarousal, and it basically just means your nervous system is responding to past traumatic events as if they were actually occuring in the present. While your conscious mind may be aware that this event has passed, your subconscious mind (which controls roughly 95% of our thoughts) is still carrying the imprint of that event, and can trigger stress hormones like adrenaline to kick into high gear when you least expect it.
On top of all that, the long term physical effects of anxiety can often be just as scary as the anxiety itself! The changes you experience as a result of your central nervous system consistently pumping out stress hormones include regular headaches, dizziness, and even depression. Not good.
Circling back to information overload…while scrolling through social media and news feeds may not be “big T” traumatizing, it can exacerbate existing trauma and distract you from taking steps to help calm yourself down when you may already be over stimulated. This is probably why nearly 20% of the American population admits to experiencing anxiety considering 82% of us are regular users of social media.
If you don’t have tools to down-regulate your nervous system, it’s almost inevitable that anxiety will take the lead even when you’re not aware. I know it can feel so scary to feel like you’re not in control of your body or mind, which is why it’s so important to empower yourself with tools to help regulate you back into a state of calm. There are an abundance of ways to help calm us down during times of stress, and hypnotherapy is right up there with the best of them.
For example, one particular study observed 57 people who were under hypnosis and found major changes in parts of the brain that provided them improved control over their emotions and helped reduce feelings of self consciousness. Another one found that with patients diagnosed with cancer, hypnosis had a both immediate and long term positive effect on calming their anxiety. Pretty amazing, right?
When I was working as a producer in Hollywood, the pressure was super high. I was stressed and anxious all the time. Hypnotherapy proved to be a life changer for me allowing me to do my job with more peace and confidence.
If you are struggling with anxiety from work or are anxious because you are unhappy with your career and want to make a change, I’d love to support you through that.
