Jenn Levin, Certified in Hypnosis for Childbirth

Meet Jenn Levin

Certified Hypnotherapist in Los Angeles

Hi, I’m Jenn Levin, a certified hypnotherapist and graduate of HMI College of Hypnotherapy—the nation’s first nationally accredited hypnotherapy college. I specialize in Hypnosis for Joyous Childbirth and am passionate about helping women release fear, build confidence, and create empowered birth experiences.

My journey into this work is deeply personal. I used hypnosis with both of my daughters—Siena (10) and Riley (6)—but their births were very different. After experiencing traumatic unexpected consequences trying HypnoBirthing with my first, I knew there had to be a better way. I wasn't expecting these adverse effects to Hypnobirthing. So during my pregnancy with Riley, I was actually training at HMI, and signed up to be mentored by Lisa Machenberg who created the Hypnosis for Joyous Childbirth program. Her guidance helped me release limiting beliefs that pain medication is "bad" and embrace the truth: there’s no single “right” way to give birth.

With this mindset, I approached Riley’s birth with clarity, confidence, and choice—free from pressure to do it “naturally” and open to modern medicine. Riley was born using the same Hypnosis for Joyous Childbirth method I now use with my clients. I am happy to report that I experienced less pain during my uterine contractions and felt so much more empowered using this hypnosis method.

Today I am passionate about helping other women experience birth in a way that feels right for them—peaceful, powerful, and free of judgment. If you want to hear more about why I am not a fan of HypnoBirthing you can read my blog here.

My Approach to Hypnotherapy for Childbirth

Unlike HypnoBirthing or HypnoBabies, that are usually taught in a group setting, my hypnosis for childbirth program is personal and designed to really meet you where you are.  So whether you are planning to do your delivery at a hospital or birthing center hypnosis can help you with whatever childbirth method you choose.

If your goal is to have a natural birth, I've got you! We will prepare you to be able to do self hypnosis during your birth so you can access all your relaxation techniques during the birthing process.

If your goal, is to use modern medicine, release fear, and build trust, I got you! We will make sure you are prepared for any medical interventions, free of severe pain, and feeling safe in the hands of your medical team.

I am here to support you, and give you all the tools I have so you feel prepared and ready to go for your baby's birthday. Every women's childbirth experience is as unique as the baby themselves. My hope is that you can use the power of your subconscious mind to make childbirth the best experience possible.

Step 4: Practice Between Sessions

You’ll receive personalized hypnosis recordings, affirmations, and guided visualizations to reinforce the work we do together. This daily practice will help you feel calm, confident, and truly prepared for the birth you desire.

What to Expect if We Work Together:

Session 1: Build Your Confidence in Giving Birth

Are you nervous about the delivery pain? What do you want your labour and childbirth to look like? We will clear differences between what we learned from society, culture, mom and friends etc and what we want the subconscious mind to believe to be true. This season is designed to begin to release any fears you have about giving birth.

Session 2: Hypnosis for Pain Management.

You will learn mindfulness techniques that you can use to manage labour pain. I will teach you how to do a "Hypno Anesthesia" and how to give yourself a "HypnoEpidural" as your labor progress. These methods can help you have a more comfortable birth. I will also make you a recording to prepare for possible medical procedures such as a C-section.

Session 3: Your Anchor & Happy Place

We will find a "happy place" that you can always come to during birth hypnosis. We will program a physical & mental anchor you can do during child birth that helps most women feel safe & relaxed during a hypnotherapy birth.

Session 4 & 5: Connecting with your Partner

If you have a partner, this is when you get to bring them into your sessions with you! Sometimes the partner doesn't know what to do to support you and here is an opportunity for them to learn these hypnosis techniques you've been learning so they can help you during your hypnotherapy birthing. These sessions tend to be very powerful in deepening the connection and love between partners.

Session 6: PostPartum

This season can be used before or after the baby arrives to help you with any of your postpartum needs. Do you need help sleeping? Do you need help asking for help? Are you feeling postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety? Hypnosis can help you transition to this new chapter of your life feeling empowered.

In every session you will go into a hypnotic state and receive audio recordings that are customized just for you!

How Does Hypnosis Actually Work for ChildBirth?

There are a few ways that hypnotherapy can help you have an much more enjoyable and relaxed childbirth. Here are some aspects that I can help you to manage with hypnosis.

  1. Relaxation and pain management: we utilize techniques that promote deep relaxation, which can help reduce anxiety, tension, and discomfort during labor. By inducing a trance-like state, hypnotherapy allows expectant mothers to enter a more calm and focused mindset, making it easier for pain management during labour.

  2. Positive mindset and visualization: by encouraging positive affirmations and visualization exercises, I will help you to develop a confident and optimistic mindset towards labor and childbirth. Visualizing a smooth and successful birth can enhance feelings of empowerment and reduce fear or apprehension.

  3. Coping with fear and anxiety: Hypnotherapy is great for addressing many fears and anxieties - as well as those related to labor - such as fear of pain or complications. We will explore and address your specific concerns, allowing you to better manage anxiety and promote a more positive birthing experience.

  4. Increasing relaxation and flexibility of the birthing muscles: Hypnotherapy can help to release tension in your bodies, allowing for increased relaxation and flexibility of the birthing muscles. This can facilitate a smoother and more efficient labor process.

  5. Enhancing natural pain relief mechanisms: our goal is to tap into your body's natural pain relief mechanisms, such as the release of endorphins and the activation of the relaxation response. By utilizing hypnosis techniques, we can increase your ability to access these natural resources, which may reduce the need for additional pain management interventions.

It's important to note that hypnotherapy for childbirth and labor should be conducted by a certified hypnotherapist experienced in working with pregnant women. Additionally, it is recommended to involve your healthcare providers and OBGYN throughout the process to ensure comprehensive care.

When Another Practice Might be a Better Fit for Your Needs

I believe everyone deserves the right support during their pregnancy and birthing journey. While I strive to offer compassionate, personalized care, there are some circumstances where another provider may be better suited to your needs.

You’re Seeking Medical or Mental Health Diagnosis

As a certified hypnotherapist, I’m not a licensed medical or mental health professional and cannot diagnose or treat clinical conditions like anxiety disorders, PTSD, or prenatal depression. If you’re experiencing these issues, I recommend speaking with your OB-GYN, midwife, or a licensed therapist. You can also explore resources like Postpartum Support International for specialized care.

You’re Looking for In-Person Birth Support

While I offer powerful emotional and subconscious preparation for birth, I do not attend births as a doula or midwife. If you’re seeking hands-on, in-person support during labor, I can refer you to trusted local birth professionals who work beautifully alongside hypnosis.

You’re Hoping for a Guaranteed, Pain-Free, Drug-Free Birth

If you're looking for someone to wave a magic wand and promise a completely painless, intervention-free birth—I'm probably not the right fit. While hypnosis is a powerful tool for reducing fear, managing pain, and building confidence, it’s not about perfection or control. Every birth is unique, and my role is to help you feel empowered no matter how your journey unfolds. If you're open to preparation over perfection, you're in the right place.

FAQs about Birthing Hypnosis

What is the HypnoBirthing method of birthing?

HypnoBirthing® is a method that uses self-hypnosis, relaxation, and breathing techniques to help women have a calm, natural birth—often emphasizing minimal medical intervention. Hypnobabies® takes a more comprehensive, medical-grade approach to childbirth hypnosis, with in-depth scripts and audio tracks designed to create deep states of relaxation and even “hypno-anesthesia.” Both methods are usually hypnosis group classes vs. private individualized sessions.

While both programs have empowered many women, my personal experience—and that of many clients—shows that they can sometimes feel rigid or overly prescriptive. My first birth using traditional HypnoBirthing felt like a failure when things didn’t go “as planned,” leaving me unprepared for the realities of labor.

That’s why my approach is different. My sessions are designed just for you. I combine the best of subconscious mind training with emotional healing, helping you release birth trauma, challenge perfectionistic ideals, and embrace your birth—whether it includes an epidural, C-section, or not. My goal is to help you feel supported, not judged.

Are there any disadvantages of hypnosis for childbirth?

Hypnosis for childbirth is a powerful and effective clinical tool for reducing acute pain and promoting a more relaxed, confident birth experience. In fact, studies show it can support spontaneous vaginal birth and improve pain management during active labour without the need for excessive medical intervention.

However, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Some individuals may find it challenging to enter a deeply relaxed state, especially without regular practice. Others may expect hypnosis to eliminate all pain, and feel disappointed if their experience includes discomfort or unexpected medical needs. It’s also important to note that hypnosis is most effective when used consistently and in combination with other forms of preparation and support.

If you’re unsure whether hypnosis for childbirth is the right approach for you, I encourage you to schedule a free consultation. We’ll talk through your goals, any concerns you may have, and how this method can be adapted to support your unique birth plan—whatever that looks like.

Is birthing hypnotherapy covered by insurance?

In most cases, hypnotherapy for child birth is not covered by insurance, as many providers still consider hypnosis a complementary or alternative therapy. While the clinical effectiveness of hypnosis for pain and birth preparation is supported by growing research, insurance companies often require further research before offering broad coverage.

Some health savings accounts (HSAs) or flexible spending accounts (FSAs) may reimburse you for hypnotherapy services with proper documentation. It's worth checking with your provider to see if your plan offers any reimbursement options.

I offer flexible payment plans and packages to make support accessible. My goal is to help you feel empowered and supported—regardless of your financial situation.

How do I know if birthing hypnosis is right for me?

If you're feeling anxious about labor, hoping to release fear or past trauma, or simply want to feel more emotionally prepared and in control of your birth experience—birthing hypnosis could be a powerful tool for you. It's especially helpful if you're looking for a more peaceful mindset, want to reduce your reliance on medication, or desire a deeper connection with your body and baby. Whether this is your first birth or you're seeking healing after a previous one, hypnosis can help you approach childbirth with calm, confidence, and clarity.

Still unsure? That’s completely normal. Every woman’s journey is different, and it’s important to find the approach that feels right for you. I offer a free, no-pressure consultation so we can talk about your goals, your questions, and whether hypnosis is the support you’ve been looking for.
